Program Details

The Graduate Certificate in Bioethics provides a flexible and convenient option for advancing bioethics knowledge in an asynchronous format. By its nature, bioethics is a subject that crosses traditional boundaries between academic disciplines. As an introductory option into the study of Bioethics, it provides foundational education opportunities for working professionals in the healthcare field. 

The certificate is ideal for current and future professionals in medicine, nursing, dentistry, social work, veterinary medicine, genetic counseling, public policy, biotechnology, hospital ethics committees, and science researchers. The 12-credit certificate program also provides a gateway to the Master of Arts in Bioethics program.

This certificate spotlights the College of Medicine – Phoenix campus's unique faculty and curricular offerings. The Department of Bioethics and Medical Humanism strives to prepare students to provide respectful, humane patient care, to address current ethical problems in health care through research and discussion, and to engage with providers, patients, and families to resolve their ethical conflicts.

A bachelor's degree from an accredited university with a minimum 2.75 GPA is required.

Students are required to complete ETH 500: Foundations of Bioethics and choose three elective courses that include:
