Program Details

Graduates of the DNP program are prepared as advanced practice nurses. Applicants may enter the program with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or a Master of Science in Nursing. Part-time and full-time options are available.

The Doctor of Nursing Practice program is a hybrid program utilizing a mixture of online didactic coursework, on-campus intensives and on-ground practicum and clinical placements. With a DNP you will be prepared to generate and disseminate nursing practice knowledge to stimulate research and improve clinical outcomes, improve health outcomes through scientifically based advanced practice within your chosen specialty, engage in and lead collaborative practice teams, and influence clinical practice transformation and policy initiatives.

Doctor in Nursing Practice (DNP) and Master’s in Public Health (MPH) Dual Degree Option: You also have the opportunity to enroll in a dual-degree DNP/MPH program that prepares you to provide exceptional quality healthcare in diverse environments. This option seamlessly blends the College of Nursing’s DNP program with the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health’s MPH program to provide you with a structured 3.5-year full-time program of study. As a dual degree student, you will be admitted to both programs simultaneously, allowing for a rich, coordinated, interdisciplinary learning experience. Upon admission, you are assigned to a DNP and MPH faculty advisor team that collaboratively supports your academic success.

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students must minimally attend three on-campus Clinical immersions in Tucson, Arizona. Clinical Immersions are designed to help students develop specialty-specific clinical skills. Faculty from all the DNP specialties support learning workshops to develop students’ essential clinical skill competencies. Upon completion of a clinical immersion experience, students are prepared to continue to enhance their clinical skills under the supervision of preceptors in clinical environments. For nurse practitioner students, clinical immersions are scheduled the first week of the spring, summer, and fall semesters during the clinical year of their DNP Program curriculum. Clinical immersions for the Nurse-Midwifery and Nurse Anesthesia students are scheduled to align with the curriculum and clinical courses.
